Summary:

This primary bathroom remodel blends soft coastal tones with modern elegance to create a calm, spa-inspired retreat. The walk-in shower features handcrafted zellige tile in soothing shades of blue and green, providing subtle texture and depth that complement the space’s serene palette. A freestanding soaking tub sits beneath a bright window, offering the perfect place to unwind. The custom double vanity in warm natural wood brings balance and warmth, paired with arched brass mirrors and elegant globe sconces for a timeless look. Marble-look floors and layered lighting complete the design, creating an airy yet grounded space that feels both luxurious and livable.

This space was beautifully curated with the creative touch of Rachel Henry of Sanctuary Designs, who worked closely with the homeowners on the layout, tile selection, and overall design vision.

Challenges & Solutions

1,800 Hand Cut Tiles

1,800 Hand Cut Tiles

Challenge:

Zellige is a handmade tile that naturally varies in thickness, width, height, and color. Because of its clay composition, it also requires special handling before installation. If not properly prepared, the clay can absorb moisture from the adhesive, potentially affecting adhesion and overall finish quality.

Solution:

To address these challenges, each tile was carefully dry-fit, marked, and soaked for 5–10 minutes prior to installation. This process was followed closely for the first few rows to ensure consistent spacing, alignment, and visual flow throughout the installation, helping to maintain the handcrafted character of the tile while achieving a cohesive finished look.
