Summary:

This covered porch in Indian Hill, Ohio, was transformed into a bright and inviting 3-seasons room—creating a comfortable extension of the home that can be enjoyed nearly year-round. What was once a dark, enclosed space with heavy stone and trim details is now filled with natural light and a refreshing modern warmth.

The renovation introduced new windows, insulation, and refined finishes that blend indoor comfort with the feel of outdoor living. Light-toned walls, natural wood textures, and clean-lined trim create a calm and airy environment perfect for gatherings or quiet mornings. The updated design provides a seamless transition from the main house, enhancing both the home’s livability and its visual flow.

This project was thoughtfully designed in collaboration with Rachel Henry of Sanctuary Designs, whose refined aesthetic and attention to material balance helped achieve a space that feels both elevated and effortlessly welcoming.

Challenges & Solutions

Hidden Load Bearing Beams

Hidden Load Bearing Beams

Challenge:

When the walls were opened to install the new bi-parting door, we discovered unexpected steel columns that were load-bearing. This unforeseen structural element required a change in plan and added complexity to creating the desired wide opening.

Solution:

Our team adjusted on-site, carefully reframing the opening and installing a LVL beam to accommodate both the load-bearing columns and the new door system. This ensured the structural integrity of the home while achieving the clean, open transition between the main living area and the new 3-seasons room that the design intended.
